I recently discovered a mis-attributed and poorly transcribed letter in the Purdue University Archives. What was identified as an “M. Miller” letter is actually the letter of 20th  Indiana Col. William Lyon Brown of Nov. 4th 1861 to a friend in Indianapolis describing the disgraceful event the newspapers simply called the “Chicamacomico Affair” on Hatteras, October 4-5. Always fun to find undiscovered 150-year-old documents!  The letter contains the only known commentary by Col. Brown on these events.  I am posting here the first page of the document.
