Jim Naylor Obituary – Mandan, ND – 1923

Finding James Naylor’s obituary today helped to fill a gap.  Previously unable to find a death certificate, I was only aware that he passed away some time prior to Margaret Wilder Welch Naylor’s 1923 death .  I was not expecting to find that the couple died within six months of one another – Jim on June 28, 1923 and Margaret on November 18, 1923.

The copy of the article is a bit fuzzy, so I have provided a transcript below.

The Bismarck Tribune, June 29, 1923, p. 6, c. 6 – “MANDAN NEWS” – James M. Naylor, 67, died yesterday at a local hospital following an illness of several months.  Complications following a severe attack of influenza was the cause of his death.

The deceased was a pioneer resident of the Dakotas having come to Doland, SD in 1872 from Hartford, Conn.  Fifteen years ago he came to Mandan and was married to Miss Margaret Wilder.  Two sons, and one daughter and five sisters and two brothers survive him.  Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of relatives.
