Runaways from Lancaster, PA Captured on Hatteras – October 1861
Runaways from Lancaster, PA Captured on Hatteras – October 1861

Here are the first sketches of the main characters of the children’s Civil War book I started writing last month. Met with the prospective illustrator again today. Meet Henry Hines age 12 (L) and George Washington Gerber age 14 (R) who ran away from their Lancaster PA homes in September 1861, only to be captured two weeks later on Hatteras Island. I think the sketches really fit the characters well. True story.  I will post more on this in the coming weeks and months.  I hope to have this published prior to the Sesquicentennial Reunion on Hatteras next Summer.  A coloring book on these events is also contemplated.
